This Week’s Crop of Intriguing New Cookbooks

It’s a week full of mostly re-issues and reprints, but a few intriguing new cookbooks are coming out. Let’s take a look!

The Plant Kitchen: 100 Easy Recipes for Vegan Beginners, from Ryland Peters & Small (January 14, 2020). I’m not a vegan, but I’m always looking for more vegetarian-friendly recipes. This one promises a lot of ideas for adding meat-free protein to your meals.

Feast in the Middle East: A Personal Journey of Family and Cuisine, by Blanche Araj Shaheen (MCP Books; January 14, 2020). I adore Middle Eastern cooking, and I’m looking forward to checking out this cookbook. Blanche runs a popular YouTube channel, bringing Middle Eastern recipes to the modern cook.

The Hairy Bikers’ One Pot Wonders, by Hairy Bikers (Seven Dials; January 14, 2020). As much as I love one-pot cookbooks, I’m not sure this will make it to my cookbook shelf. However, I’ll point out that these guys have written twenty cookbooks and are quite famous in the British cooking scene.

Made Simple Italian: Palate-Pleasing Recipes That Take Only a Short Time to Prepare, by Publications International Ltd. (January 15, 2020). I don’t think the world needs yet another Italian cookbook (except for the awesome newly-released “Pasta Grannies”), so I’ll pass on this overly simple cookbook.

Beauty Foods: 65 Nutritious and Delicious Recipes That Make You Glow from the Inside Out, by Caroline Artiss (Ryland Peters & Small, January 15, 2020). This is a re-issue of a book with gorgeous food photography and delicious-sounding healthy recipes.

The Secret Garden Cookbook: Inspiring Recipes from the Magical World of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, by Amy Cotler (Harvard Common Press, January 14, 2020). I’m so very excited about this revised edition cookbook, that I’ve had it on pre-order for several months now. I’m a huge Frances Hodgson Burnett fan, and I’m looking forward to showing a cookbook lookthrough of this for you soon!

Naked Cakes: Simply Stunning Cakes, by Hannah Miles (Ryland Peters & Small, January 14, 2020) is also a reissue. This week seems to be quite full of them! I already own the previous earlier edition, so I won’t buy this one. It’s a lovely baking book, if you don’t own it already.

Delicious Soups: Fresh and Hearty Soups for Every Occasion, by Belinda Williams (Ryland Peters & Small; January 14, 2020). I make soup constantly during fall and winter, and I’m always on the lookout for another soup cookbook. Chapters include Stocks; Hearty & Wholesome; Smooth & Creamy; A Little Special; and International Flavors.

Eat Green: Everyday Flexitarian Recipes to Shop Smart, Cook with Ease and Help the Planet, by Melissa Hemsley (Ebury Press, January 9, 2020). A new cookbook by the British cookbook author who wrote “Eat Happy.”  This is the perfect cookbook for those of us struggling to eat healthier after overindulging during the holidays.

Big Mamma Cucina Poplare: Contemporary Italian Recipes, by Big Mamma (Phaidon Press; January 8, 2020). I was just saying we don’t need yet another Italian cookbook; but I admit this one has me tempted. Big Mamma is a set of seven restaurants in Europe. The food photography, from what I can tell from the scant few images Amazon included, looks great and the recipes seem to have been written by someone with a sense of humor.
