The Little Women Cookbook: Tempting Recipes from the March Sisters and Their Friends and Family, by Wini Moranville (October 2019; Harvard Common Press).
I found this to be a delightful cookbook with darling illustrations and nice color food photography. It was easy to follow and a quick read, but perhaps a little on the slim side – I wanted more photographs of more of the dishes. I wouldn’t mind spending more $ for a thicker volume.
The recipes are not challenging (which is great) and I enjoyed the info about gelatin and blanc-mange, the author’s detour around Amy’s limes (wait til you see how she incorporated a yummier-tasting take on the theme), and how much food history research went into the writing of this cookbook.
There’s quite a bit of 1860s New England food history sprinkled throughout, written in an engaging and interesting manner.
Here’s a perfect Christmas gift to buy for female friends or relatives. I might even give this to a teenager if I know any who like cooking and have loved reading Little Women. I’m definitely gifting it to several people this holiday season.
