One piece of advice my mother told me when I was first diagnosed with Celiac is “don’t try to replace the things you love, find new things to enjoy.” That’s how I have gotten over all the gluten filled things I used to love – it is solid advice.
Now, we are in such a wonderful age where everyone is finding alternatives to everything. With food allergies on the rise, it is so important for us to learn how to make adjustments. That’s what humans are best at – adapting.

Gluten-free cooking doesn’t have to be boring or daunting. That’s why I think How to Make Anything Gluten-Free: Over 100 recipes for everything from home comforts to fakeaways, cakes to dessert, brunch to bread! cookbook is so colorful and fun. Becky Excell has created tasty dishes that don’t even look gluten free.
Gluten-free has gone mainstream, with most large supermarkets offering gluten-free options. This has been great, but honestly some store-bought items still need a bit of work. For instance, I will never buy a store-bought gluten-free muffin – I always make them myself. There are still options that are not offered that I’ve been dying to make, donuts being one. With this cookbook, I can make anything I’ve missed!
Recipes include breakfast, breads, desserts (yum!) and main dishes that are usually gluten heavy. I cannot wait to do a deep dive!
This cookbook piggybacks on the fact that there are now widely available gluten-free flour blends. As someone who has been cooking gluten-free for over 7 years, this cookbook is fantastic for beginner cooks. Each recipe is very easy to follow! There are even recipes that have gluten-free choux pastry. The ingredients are also very easy to find in your local grocery store and online. My favorite gluten-free flour blends are Namaste and Bob’s Red Mill!
One thing I appreciate is that there are tips on how to make some recipes dairy free or low FODMAP when applicable. Many people are not only eliminating gluten from their diets, but also animal products as well.
Becky Excell fantastically illustrates all these amazing gluten-free dishes and makes it easily accessible for all of us. We can now be excited to eat and cook again with How to Make Anything Gluten-Free: Over 100 recipes for everything from home comforts to fakeaways, cakes to dessert, brunch to bread! cookbook.
There are so many things I am excited to start cooking gluten free, like eclairs and naan! Are there any other readers who have to eat gluten-free around here? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
