I’m a vegetarian, not a vegan (I can’t live without butter, sour cream, or ice cream!) but I’m a big fan of Japanese food and can’t wait to try some of the recipes from the brand new Vegan Recipes from Japan cookbook. It’s by German author Malte Härtig.

This isn’t just a cookbook of Japanese vegan recipes. It’s more specifically something really exciting to me – a vegan kaiseki cookbook. We can learn to make multi-course Japanese meals using local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. I love the idea of having several small tastes and different little dishes during dinner (although it makes for more cleanup and dish washing afterwards!)
Look at the beautiful picture of this simple silken tofu, rainbow chard and mandarin dressing, meant to be served in spring.
Another example of a Spring dish featured in this vegan cookbook is “Cold Soba Noodles with Spring Onions and Tomato.”
After a holiday season of overeating comfort foods and desserts, this sounds like a healthy cookbook I need to dive into immediately.
