I would love to gift this to myself or some of my other friends who love anime and Japanese manga for the holidays. If you’re looking for a variety of Japanese recipes, this is a great cookbook.
When peeking through, you can see this cookbook was made with love. The recipes are all very fun and mostly kid friendly. There are techniques and tips trickled throughout on the sidebars of each recipe. They even have a whole section dedicated to what anime each recipe is featured in. Even if you are not someone who watches anime or reads manga, this recipe book is a fantastic introduction to Japanese cuisine!
I adore mochi and will definitely indulge myself and look through Mochi Magic: 50 Traditional and Modern Recipes for the Japanese Treat (via Amazon; affiliate link.) There are 50 mochi recipes to spark the imagination. Making these treats would make my day just a little happier, because they are so cute! Creating little bears or lions looks like an intimidating task, but this cookbook breaks down each part of the mochi design.

Truly, I’ve attempted but failed half the time. Finding bento specific recipes is bound to help! Bentos are renowned for being cute, but there is a science behind what foods to choose. Picking various colors, shapes, and sizes are all a part of the aesthetic and good for our bellies.
There are 85 mix and match recipes in this cookbook. You won’t go bored with your lunches! Each have unique designs and flavors (not everything is solely Japanese cuisine.) One thing they go over is how what kind of packaging to use and what kind of dividers. I also love how they’ve listed tools we can use to create things like adorable cheese bears or potato snowflakes.
