I was curious today about whether my favorite cookbook publishers had YouTube channels, and if so, are they updated regularly? I poured myself a cup of tea, put on my favorite relaxing Christmas Cafe background music video, and started exploring.
It turns out most publishers do not exclusively publish cookbooks, so their YouTube channels are shared with books about thrillers, non-fiction, romance books and kids books. You’ll have to pick and choose what you want to watch from each channel’s offerings. I’ve also discovered, to my disappointment, that many cookbook publishers’ YouTube channels are poorly run and not well maintained (see Gibbs Smith, for a sad example).
I’ve only included publishers that have put out a video on YouTube in the last 6 months. It’s a shame that companies such as Crown Publishing, a division of Random House, have an active channel but do not publish cookbook content on it anymore. Also DK Books used to publish lots of cooking and cookbook content, but really hasn’t updated for an astonishing 10 years. It seems like publishers in general do not put many resources into promoting the cookbooks they publish, and that’s unfortunate. Must be tough to be a cookbook author and have to do all the marketing yourself!
However, I did find some gems and enjoyed the cookbook features and cooking videos I watched today via these channels. Take a look!

I cheated on this one because I love their books so much. Sadly, they haven’t uploaded new videos on cookbooks in two years.

In conclusion, I’m disappointed that major publishers, with all their resources, have focused on Instagram and basically abandoned YouTube. It would be great to see publishers embrace BookTok and BookTube and have more of a presence to let us know about their upcoming cookbooks. It would help their authors make book sales, too! What a shame.
If you enjoyed these YouTube channels, please be sure to like the publishers’ videos, comment something nice, and subscribe!
