If you’re interested in learning how to cook Japanese food at home, try this 2014 cookbook from Rockridge Press: “Japanese Cooking Made Simple: A Japanese Cookbook with Authentic Recipes for Ramen, Bento, Sushi & More.”
Chapters include:
- The Basics of Cooking Japanese
- Flavorings
- Rice
- Soups, Stews and Hot Pots
- Noodles
- Salads, Vegetables and Garnishes
- Tofu and Eggs
- Sushi
- Fish and Seafood
- Poultry and Meat
- Sweets
- Bento Boxes
The Bento boxes chapter is my favorite!
The cookbook is very thorough, but not daunting. It presents concepts in an easy to understand format. The photography is a little outdated by today’s standards, but this is meant to be more of an educational cookbook than a coffee table one.
