Follow Friday: Pie Bloggers to Get Inspired for Thanksgiving

I volunteered to host Thanksgiving this year with the family. The last time I tried to do that, we waited until 8 pm for the turkey to finish cooking! This was because I thought baking the pie first was the smart thing to do. Boy, I was wrong!

Now, I want to prepare my pies well ahead of time. I always bake myself a pumpkin pie (separate from Thanksgiving!) Some of my relatives don’t like pumpkin pie, so I am making a couple of other flavors. This means I need resources! For a quick fix, I always go to bloggers.

Hopefully, this helps you, too, because it can be stressful finding pie recipes.

Crazy for Crust

I really like how Crazy for Crust has organized its website. It is very easy to find tasty pie recipes.

There are pie crust recipes before we even touch the filling. Each filling is organized into 10 different categories that will help you during the holidays. You can see a whole holiday section if you are looking for something more traditional!

Bake from Scratch

Bake from Scratch is a bi-monthly publication from Hoffman Media. You can create beautiful, artisan baked goods. They also talk about the world’s best bakeries! Check out some of their products that should be in every baker’s pantry.

You have seen a few of the Bake from Scratch cookbooks over on Cookbook Divas! They’re a fabulous resource for baked goods.

You will currently find traditional pie recipes typically used for the holidays listed at the top of the page. This includes favorites such as bourbon pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and apple pie.

Luckily, there’s a search bar to help you find alternatives! Bake from Scratch has much more than pie recipes. Use this website for other scrumptious treats!

Nothing in the House

This is an older blog, but I still enjoy it!

You’ll find a variety of pie recipes on Nothing in the House that span from chocolate to berry. There are savory options for future holidays, like Christmas!

The chocolate pie sounds yummy! I wonder if my family would enjoy one for the holidays. Here are some other pies they offer:

  • Chocolate Orange Pie with Mascarpone Cream
  • Cranberry Goat Cheese Tart with Almond Shortbread Crust
  • Red Wine-Poached Seckel Pear Tartlets
  • Chocolate Peppermint Cream Pie, pictured top right
  • Milk Chocolate & Salted Caramel Hazelnut Tart
  • Peppermint Pattie Tart

You can reference this blog for events all year round.

Art of the Pie

I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with Kate McDermott! The Art of the Pie is her blog so you can try some of her recipes out first!

Here’s what Kate McDermott says: “I want to show you that making pie is easier than you think and as American as…well, Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, Peach Pie, Chicken Pot Pie and more!”

One thing that I love about this blog is her demo videos! Baking pie can be an intimidating activity. That’s why having a visual reference is incredibly helpful.

If you love her cookbooks, you will love following Kate McDermott every month. You’ll be able to get her new concoctions before anyone else!

I am Baker

I like the I am Baker blog a lot! You can search for your favorite desserts, or peruse the website at your leisure. There are all kinds of pies and tarts I want to go back and try after the holidays!

The photography in the I am Baker blog is gorgeous. It is by far my favorite! There are pies I wouldn’t ordinarily try until I saw the photo, now my mouth is watery.

The blog is very informative provides insights on how to make wonderful pies. Instead of having to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to the recipe, you’ll have tips and tricks right from the get-go.

I hope these bloggers help you out this Thanksgiving! I know I’m keeping them bookmarked for other celebrations in the future.
