Cookbooks for Japanese Pop Culture Lovers

Gudetama: The Official Cookbook: Recipes for Living a Lazy Life

This Japanese character is one of my favorites. Gudetama’s name literally translates to “lazy egg,” and it’s how we all feel sometimes when it comes to cooking. Gudetama: The Official Cookbook: Recipes for Living a Lazy Life is a perfect addition for those who want quick and easy meals that taste good.

The chapter titles are hilarious. You will find Barely Awake Breakfasts, Lazy Lunches, Drowsy Dinners, and Tired Treats.

This adorable egg will be enough motivation to start cooking for yourself. If Gudetama can do it, you can do it too!

There are 60 simple recipes for the lazy. Some examples are Unmotivated Breakfast Sandwich, Couldn’t Care Less Cupcakes, Maybe I’ll Make Meatloaf, Sleepy Time Hot Chocolate, Easygoing Eggnog, and more.

At the very top of each recipe, there is a “lazy meter.” Now you’ll be able to decide if it’s worth diving into depending on how you feel! In addition, there are adorable blurbs throughout that make you feel warm and fuzzy. It’s a very wholesome cookbook!

Gudetama: The Official Cookbook: Recipes for Living a Lazy Life is perfect for people of all ages.

One Piece Pirate Recipes

I’m surprised it took so long for the One Piece Pirate Recipes cookbook to come out. One Piece has been a long-running manga since 1997! One of the main characters, Sanji, is the crew’s chef. Yes, I used to watch the show, but stopped – it was too long for me!

I see a mix of drawings and photos in this cookbook. You’ll find many illustrations of your favorite characters with “manga moments” scattered throughout the book. Now, we can remember where each dish came from in the story.

The One Piece Pirate Recipes cookbook is very simple and clear. Making these recipes will be effortless! There is so much going on inside that I thought it would be hard to follow!

There are 98 pages filled with One Piece lore and dishes! You can’t be the Pirate King on an empty stomach!

Cookbooks Based on Movies and TV

Friends: The Official Central Perk Cookbook (Classic TV Cookbooks, 90s TV)

After last year, a lot of us are going to want to celebrate the holidays with loved ones. I can’t think of a group more fond of each other than Friends! We can reminisce about the show with Friends: The Official Central Perk Cookbook (Classic TV Cookbooks, 90s TV).

I am surprised by how many amazing recipes are provided in the cookbook. Here is a list of the chapters:

  • Basic Recipes
  • A Moo Point
  • Sips and Brews
  • Cafe Perks
  • Not on a Break Sweets

I did laugh at the chapter names!

I know Monica is a chef, but I had no idea there were so many recipes featured in Friends. Each recipe has the season and episode number listed at the top. Now, we can identify them in the show!

I like that they’ve marked whether the recipe is easy, medium, or hard to make. I try to meal-plan based on how difficult each dish will be. It’s the perfect way to organize get-togethers with your loved ones!

The Friends: The Official Central Perk Cookbook (Classic TV Cookbooks, 90s TV) is a fantastic resource during the holidays – Especially for Friendsgiving!

Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Did you know that Wookies observe a tradition called “Life Day?” The purpose is to celebrate family, joy, and harmony—values and tenets of Wookiee culture. This is similar to how humans celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s why I wanted to check out Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook: Official Holiday Recipes From a Galaxy Far, Far Away. It is perfect for the holiday season.

There are over 50 fantastic delicious recipes you can use all year round. All of them come from the Wookie home planet Kashyyyk! Recipes included are Bantha Surprise, Jelly Life Day Orbs, and Mudhorn Eggnog.

There are food recipes provided, and also activities and crafts to do together. They’ve made it possible to create your own Life Day robe!

Other Nerdy Cookbooks:

Fairytale Cooking: Delicious Dishes Inspired by The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Other Classic Characters

I love rereading old fairy tales during the cold season. It’s easy to sit back and relax next to a fire and pretend you live in a magical world. It would be even better to have food inspired by some of these stories.

The Fairytale Cooking: Delicious Dishes Inspired by The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Other Classic Characters cookbook has recipes based on Little Red Riding Hood, Beauty and the Beast, The Snow Queen, and much more.

The premise of Fairytale Cooking: Delicious Dishes Inspired by The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Other Classic Characters is these stories are passed on between generations as are recipes. We can learn a lot from both.

This cookbook is laid out in a very intriguing way. First, we start with the fairytale. Then, we move on to a full menu based on the story. I will use Little Red Riding Hood as an example. We begin with the Button Mushroom Flatbread with Hazelnut Pesto as an appetizer. The main course is a Saddle of Venison with Carrot Puree and Porcini Mushrooms. Last we finish with a Mini Redwine Cupcake with a Cheesecake Heart for dessert. Yum!

Every menu is unique to each story. They’re scrumptious and magical!

The Geek’s Cookbook: Easy Recipes Inspired by Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and More!

For those of you who are super nerds (like me) check out The Geek’s Cookbook: Easy Recipes Inspired by Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and More!

The recipes provided in this cookbook have come from all over the place. Some examples are Zelda, The Walking Dead, Minecraft, Pokemon, Batman, and so much more. There are over 30 recipes to choose from! You can mix and match your universes and see if people can guess where the dishes come from!

Luckily this cookbook is organized by type. The chapters are:

  • Cinema
  • TV Series
  • Video Games
  • Comics and Animation
  • Little Tips and Extras

There are a lot of mainstream favorites listed!

This cookbook will come in handy for all kinds of parties this autumn.

What geeky cookbook would you like to see in the future?
