Easy Cookbooks for Families Starting School September 2021

School is officially in session! For the last few weeks, I’ve heard from so many parents panicking about getting the kids ready for school. Also, people are physically going back into the office a few times a week. This means less time at home to cook and prep delicious food for the household. Luckily, we at Cookbook Divas blog have found a few amazing cookbooks that will help you for the rest of the school year.

One-Hour Comfort: Quick, Cozy, Modern Dishes for All Your Cravings

by America’s Test Kitchen

America’s Test Kitchen always provides tasty recipes. That’s why I am really excited about the One-Hour Comfort: Quick, Cozy, Modern Dishes for All Your Cravings cookbook.

Comfort food is always my go-to during the cold season. If you’re concerned about eating healthy – this is not the cookbook for you. There are whole chapters dedicated to carb classics like Pad Thai and mashed potatoes and cheesy goodies like grilled cheese sandwiches and enchiladas.

Many of these recipes take a maximum of an hour to prepare. Many of the recipes are also ones you can throw together, put on the stove, and let sit. It’s still quick and easy food even if it takes some time. Good food does take time!

In addition, the One-Hour Comfort: Quick, Cozy, Modern Dishes for All Your Cravings cookbook doesn’t overcomplicate. It encourages us to use premade crusts for pies or box pasta. There is no need to get fancy.

My favorite part about the book is that America’s Test Kitchen gives us recipes from all around the world. These are international classics!

Bare Minimum Dinners: Recipes and Strategies for Doing Less in the Kitchen

by Jenna Helwig

I adore the message behind the Bare Minimum Dinners: Recipes and Strategies for Doing Less in the Kitchen cookbook. Most of us love a home-cooked meal, but it shouldn’t get in the way of living our lives.

Lots of recipes here are for Instant Pots and pressure cookers. We also see recipes that take 30 minutes or less and require very little cleanup. Overall, Bare Minimum Dinners: Recipes and Strategies for Doing Less in the Kitchen cookbook reduces our time in the kitchen.

Jenna offers helpful tips—for example, how to keep salad greens fresh and at the ready. Does anyone else have this problem? She also includes easy substitutions for her recipes and supermarket brands that will make cooking easy.

Chapters include:

  • Recipes Ready in 30 Minutes or Less
  • Recipes With Seven Ingredients or Less
  • Dinners that Come Together in a Single Pot or Pan
  • Recipes for the Instant Pot or Pressure Cooker
  • Easy Add-Ons to Round Out Dinner

I love how this is organized!

Cook Once Dinner Fix: Quick and Exciting Ways to Transform Tonight’s Dinner into Tomorrow’s Feast

by Cassy Joy Garcia

I was floored when I saw that this cookbook had 120 recipes. These recipes are designed for busy bees like us! Cook Once Dinner Fix: Quick and Exciting Ways to Transform Tonight’s Dinner into Tomorrow’s Feast uses leftovers from one recipe to quickly cook a completely different meal the next day. This reminds me of the Netflix show The Best Leftovers!

This cookbook is divided into simple chapters: pork, poultry, beef, seafood, and vegetarian! There is even a guide on how to substitute for each recipe if you have any dietary restrictions.

Cook Once Dinner Fix: Quick and Exciting Ways to Transform Tonight’s Dinner into Tomorrow’s Feast solves the “what’s for dinner” question without requiring enormous amounts of time and energy. Plus, you can save some money! This will entice us to be a little more creative when we approach cooking.

Do you have any go-to meals that you always use for busy weekdays? I know Carrie is familiar with this dish: “Haystacks” is something we make quite often in our household. It is similar to a taco salad. I’d love to hear more suggestions!
