I’m surprised with myself and how much I’ve been baking this year. I thought I was tired of it after the holidays, but apparently I can’t get enough. I am really excited to check out what this year has to offer when it comes to baking cookbooks. There are always new bakers paving the way for new savory and sweet treats!
Let’s check out some new cookbooks coming out in March that will rock the oven.

The National Trust Book of Baking
Sybil Kapoor is a well known food writer who has composed 8 delightful cookbooks and won quite a few rewards. This is someone you will want to closely pay attention to! In The National Trust Book of Baking cookbook, Kapoor shares her secrets.
This cookbook illustrates some of Britain’s best sweet and savory bakes. If you’re a Great British Bake Off lover and want to explore some of those classics, The National Trust Book of Baking cookbook is a must-have. There are recipes for pastries, bread, cakes, and more. The difficulty level ranges from easy to hard. It’s a perfect addition to any baker’s cookbook collection.
The King Arthur Baking Company’s All-Purpose Baker’s Companion
Many cookbooks in March are definitely dessert-oriented, but the The King Arthur Baking Company’s All-Purpose Baker’s Companion cookbook is an all around baker’s dream. There are hundreds of recipes that cover both sweet and savory.
Technically this cookbook is a revision, with 20 new recipes and 50 new versions. They’ve included substitutions and gluten-free options – finally! Another thing I thoroughly enjoy is how they’ve organized this cookbook. It flows a little better and has some unique chapters, such as breakfast. They’ve separated the breads thoroughly, so you know what you will be getting into. This is very helpful, especially with meal planning!
Mary Berry Cooks to Perfection
If you’ve ever watched the Great British Baking Show, you will be very familiar with Mary Berry. In order to create the perfect bake, you have to consult the master, which is definitely Mary Berry. The Mary Berry Cooks to Perfection cookbook is going to make you an adept baker!
There are more than just bakes in this cookbook. There’s a mix of sweet and savory recipes that will just melt in your mouth. I was surprised at how easy a lot of these dishes are to make. Even the more elaborate recipes are broken down simply for new cooks.
One of my favorite parts about this book is that all 100 recipes are photographed. Now we can refer to the book and aim for the correct look! There are even step-by-step photos for some of these recipes. This will ensure perfection in all of your dishes!
Another perk about the Mary Berry Cooks to Perfection cookbook is that recipes are divided by food group. It will be easy to find exactly what you want and learn as you cook.
Small Batch Baking: 60 Sweet and Savory Recipes to Satisfy Your Craving
The Small Batch Baking: 60 Sweet and Savory Recipes to Satisfy Your Craving cookbook is a fantastic concept. My home is only comprised of the two of us, so baking large dishes can be really hectic. Sometimes it feels like we are having leftovers for a million years. That’s why I love this cookbook.
I get cravings all the time, especially for sweets. Sometimes all I want is one cinnamon roll, but end up making huge batches which go to waste. This cookbook ensures that we no longer waste and can bake small batches at a time!
Another thing I enjoy is that the author, Saura Kline, has included more than just small baking measurements. It can be used for large parties or tiny cravings. Each recipe has calculations for 4 servings or 24 servings – it’s perfect.
These recipes are very easy to make, even in smaller portions. They include tips and tricks that’ll make your baking experience easy peasy!
Alaska Sourdough, Revised Edition: The Real Stuff by a Real Alaskan
I started to really crave bread at about the same time that I wasn’t able to have bread (sigh.) Learning how to make bread wasn’t on my radar for a really long time. The Alaska Sourdough, Revised Edition: The Real Stuff by a Real Alaskan cookbook is really inspiring me. This cookbook is a classic – over 50 years old. Now this kitschy cookbook offers more than 95 recipes and extra facts about Alaska.
This cookbook is easy, plain, and simple. If you want to learn how to make bread without any of the fancy bells and whistles, this is it! Ruth Allman has created very approachable bread recipes that anyone can make. Imagine being able to throw an easy sourdough bread together and have freshly baked bread for dinner on the daily?
This is obviously a unique bread baking book because it emphasizes Alaskan sourdough. This cookbook is full of fun pieces of knowledge about Alaska and some secrets of about sourdough. I highly recommend Alaska Sourdough, Revised Edition: The Real Stuff by a Real Alaskan cookbook!
Bread: A Baker’s Book of Techniques and Recipes
Speaking of classics Bread: A Baker’s Book of Techniques and Recipes is another must have for your bookshelf. Bread was first published in 2004. It received the Julia Child Award for best First Book from the International Association of Culinary Professionals. If you’re just starting out, this is the cookbook for you.
This cookbook goes into a lot of detail on types of bread, technique, yeast, mixing – everything you’d ever want to know about making bread. There are so many little details that I’ve never even thought of that are addressed here. An example would be using mixers – the type of mixer is going to influence how much time you mix each product.
Even though there are a lack of pictures throughout this cookbook, I am okay with it. There is so much information and technical bits that the pictures might end up not being helpful. With things like hand rolling or knots there are drawn illustrations showing exactly what steps are needed.
If you’re up for experimenting with bread baking, Bread: A Baker’s Book of Techniques and Recipes is a fabulous option!
I know that if I start practicing now I might be able to make a head-turner next year during the holidays. I’d love to make my own baked goods without going to the grocery store!
