I honestly began to love bread shortly before being diagnosed with Celiac, so I live vicariously through other bread lovers. This is why I absolutely love looking through bread baking cookbooks – a little torture, but a lot of love. Plus, the more I learn about baking bread the ‘normal’ way the more I can make adjustments for my dietary needs!

Taste of Home Breads: 100 Oven-Fresh Loaves, Rolls, Biscuits, and More
Who better to learn about bread baking than from Taste of Home? I am always eyeballing the Taste of Home magazine while I wait in line at the grocery store!
The first thing I notice with the Taste of Home Breads: 100 Oven-Fresh Loaves, Rolls, Biscuits and More cookbook is how visually striking it is. There are photos for just about every recipe, and it offers techniques to help us make the best looking bread.
There are very distinct chapters in this cookbook:
An Introduction to Bread Baking
Yeast Breads
Rolls, Biscuits & More
Quick Breads
Breads Made Easy
Muffins, Pull-Aparts & Other Surprises
I appreciate that it isn’t lengthy, but sticks with the basics!
I believe they cover most of the basic breads you could possible imagine in your home. This also leaves room for creativity if you’re in the mood to try your hand at making your own kind of bread.
These recipes are easy and require basically the same ingredients. If you already have bread making ingredients at home, you’ll be fine! It’s the technique that differs for each delicious treat.
The instructions are clear and concise and very, very simple. Taste of Home Breads: 100 Oven-fresh loaves, rolls, biscuits and more is the perfect cookbook for novice bakers or home cooks. You will never look to the grocery store for bread again!
Speaking of store-bought bread versus homemade, another perk about this cookbook is the nutritional information at the bottom of each recipe. Now we can compare and contrast which is actually healthier and tastier.
I highly recommend Taste of Home Breads: 100 Oven-Fresh Loaves, Rolls, Biscuits and More for bakers of all levels. There are 100 delightful recipes from classics to modern.
Life Lessons from a Homemade Sourdough Starter: Teachings in Happiness With the One & Only Sourdough Recipe
Luckily, I have learned, I may be able to eat sourdough bread! It is my favorite kind of bread, so I will have to learn how to do it right. The cookbook “Life Lessons from a Homemade Sourdough Starter: Teachings in Happiness With the One & Only Sourdough Recipe” starts from the beginning!
I adore the fact that this cookbook not only helps you understand the ways of making sourdough bread, but tries to teach life lessons outside of the kitchen. The origins of this book actually stems from a very impulsive action from a serious German geoscientist to switch careers as a baker. He learned that even with absolute measurements to the tenth decimal, bread baking had a mind of it’s own.
This sparked an idea, which is this cookbook. Finding happiness and satisfaction through bread baking. Initially, we learn why we start to bake a loaf in the first place – sheer curiosity. Which then evolves into baking as a place to play and explore and just be. It is honestly a beautiful book.
“Life Lessons from a Homemade Sourdough Starter: Teachings in Happiness With the One & Only Sourdough Recipe” is a unique cookbook. It is small, but empowering and full of wisdom. I think many of us who are overwhelmed with our busy lives need to hear the advice and insight given in this cookbook.
I am looking forward to continuously explore the baking realms with these two bread baking cookbooks coming out this February. Keep your eyes peeled!
