As I’m slowly learning about wine, I’m discovering that there is a fascinating science behind it. Cooking is this way as well! Fusing wine and food together, too, is an art.

They first explain what makes a delightful pairing, and why certain wines go well with certain foods – this might be my favorite part. I believe this is one of the basics that many people miss when trying to pair food and wine together.

We then move on to what kinds of wines are available to us, including blends. As time has gone by we have expertly created many beautiful blends to keep wine drinking a little trendy. The Sommelier’s Cookbook: Recipes and Wine Pairings for Discerning Palates lists 60 kinds of wine types and blends so we can familiarize ourselves with the basics. This includes where they’re grown, what they’re called, and what food they taste great with.

Finally we get to the recipes! There are 75 tasty recipes that include main dishes, snacks, appetizers, and desserts. There is a chapter for each section, so it makes navigating really effortless. These recipes are very yummy and and easy to assemble. There is even a chapter on take out foods and wine pairings!

There are whole meal plans in this cookbook that will help you be the best host possible. It’s a fantastic introduction to the world of wine and food pairings. Soon you will be able to branch off on your own and create your own meal plans.

One of the best sections in this The Sommelier’s Cookbook: Recipes and Wine Pairings for Discerning Palates is the recipe index by wine. This might be the only cookbook index I would heavily use. If I know I have “x” wine and need to find a pair in a jiffy, I can just flip to the index!

The more I’ve been exposed to the wine industry the more fascinated I have become. The science and art behind food and wine is quite spectacular. Once we can gather again, I cannot wait to show others what I’ve learned and to host a fabulous party!
