If you’re looking to celebrate any successes this year, take a look at Ovenly: Sweet and Salty Recipes from New York’s Most Creative Bakery cookbook. Ovenly is an award winning bakery renowned for their incredibly elegant desserts. Not only can we indulge in the bakery’s classics like their ooey-gooey Hot Chocolate Cookie, but also in new recipes which will easily become a household staple.
I enjoy the beginning of this cookbook, which is the story of how the authors met and started a bakery. It’s a very relatable tale about two people whose passion for food and baking end up being a way of life! The story is short and sweet, but helps you connect with the authors of this cookbook.
This cookbook is a dessert maker’s dream. Ovenly: Sweet and Salty Recipes from New York’s Most Creative Bakery dissects all the kitchen tools necessary for baking, why, when, and how you use each one. Each chapter is divided up into different kinds of bakes: Scones, muffins, cakes, coffee cakes, bars and brownies, and sauces – just to name a few.
With 272 pages and 12 chapters, there are plenty of desserts that will keep you happy throughout the year.
Notice the title of Ovenly: Sweet and Salty Recipes from New York’s Most Creative Bakery contains the word “salty.” There are very distinct recipes in this cookbook, such as apple pie using bleu cheese or mustard in spice cookies. Don’t let that stop you from experimenting with these interesting and tasty flavors. This cookbook contains the perfect balance of salty and sweet for an appetizing treat. I would say this is why this particular cookbook stands out among many baking cookbooks – it isn’t afraid of eccentricity.
The recipes vary in difficulty from fairly easy to difficult. Some of the ingredients are hard to find, such as different kinds of espresso or stouts. This is why the first chapter of the cookbook is about all the must-haves in your pantry for a smooth baking experience.
The only hang up is the lack of measurements for some of these stunning desserts. This may prove difficult for rookie bakers.
Take a look at Ovenly: Sweet and Salty Recipes from New York’s Most Creative Bakery cookbook and let us know which recipe you are eager to try!
