There is nothing better than the smell of fresh baked goods in the house during the chilly season. We are now in prime time bread making season! There is something special about freshly baked bread that feels so comforting. I remember as kids, my mom made us homemade sourdough bread to go with our pumpkin soup. My family would also make some delicious zucchini bread during Thanksgiving and rolls for Christmas.
For most of us, bread is a central part of our meals! Personally, I’ve always been intimidated by making bread. It can be time consuming and require a lot of work. There’s a lot of science behind it, making sure the temperature is right, yeast is activated, kneaded properly – the list goes on! With so much time on our hands, I think it wouldn’t hurt to start dabbling. That way, my bread can be the star for future holidays and possibly even gifts.

These new bread baking cookbooks will surely help with the new adventure.
I was drawn to the photos in Mastering Bread: The Art and Practice of Handmade Sourdough, Yeast Bread, and Pastry [A Baking Book]. Not only are these creations artistic, but Marc Vetri breaks down proper ways of kneading bread visually. There are 70 recipes all spanning from savory to sweet breads!
The Naturally Fermented Bread: How To Use Yeast Water Starters to Bake Wholesome Loaves and Sweet Fermented Buns cookbook is fascinating and better off for more advanced bakers and botanists. As someone with celiac disease, learning more about how to naturally bake is incredibly appealing. Down to the basics, including growing your own yeast! The recipes sound really tasty and unique as well. I can see this as a great gift for an exceptional baker.
As I peek through Bien Cuit: The Art of Bread cookbook I feel like I am traveling the bread world. This is full of old and new recipes from all over the world. We can learn new techniques from the idols of today and ancestors of the past to create mouth watering artisanal breads.
I thought that The British Baking Book cookbook would be a great addition to my cookbook shelf. There are over 100 recipes that are all British classic bakes. It’s an all around great baking cookbook – not exclusively bread. I thoroughly enjoy the rustic photography throughout, displaying beautiful breads, cakes, and pastries along with beautiful landscapes.
I am thrilled to take a peek at Homemade Sourdough: Easy, At-Home Artisan Bread Making cookbook. For beginner bread bakers, this is the cookbook you’ll want to get your hands on. I’d love to learn from some of my favorite bakers with Great British Bake Off Bake it Better (No.4): Bread (The Great British Bake Off) cookbook! There is a mix of traditional and modern recipes in this lovely book. It is the fourth of many of the Great British Bake Off books if you’re interested. The whole set would be a great gift for friends or family who are obsessed with Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, or Prue Leith! (Like me!)
Who doesn’t love homemade sourdough bread? In Wild Yeast: The French Baker’s Guide to Making Your Own Starter for Delicious Bread, Pizza, Desserts, and More! Cookbook Mouni Abdelli focuses on the sourdough starter, wild yeast. It would be interesting to figure out what makes sourdough so different than other kinds of breads.
With the Sourdough Mania cookbook Anita Šumer guides us through all kinds of bread baking. Šumer has over 70k Instagram followers and counting. It all started when her husband was ill and could not eat yeasted bread, so now she has learned to integrate sourdough cooking in all her bread baking. This book is beautiful and insightful.
If you are new to keto or are trying it out, the Keto Bread: A Mouthwatering Cookbook with 150 Quick, Easy and Delicious Low-Carb Recipes for Ketogenic Homemade Bakery to Enhance Weight Loss, Burn Fat Faster and Boost Energy! Cookbook is a must have. Giving up bread is a really difficult task (I can empathize); this guilt free bread book will help you keep on task!
I’m sure with one or all of these we can all become bread artisans!
