A Peek Through the Cookbook Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes through Central Asia, from Hinterland to Heartland

What a beautiful cookbook Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes through Central Asia, from Hinterland to Heartland (via Amazon; affiliate link) is. If you’re looking to take an adventure to Central Asia and eat their food, this is the book for you. You can tell a lot about a culture based on the food. It is also, in my opinion, the best way to make connections.

This cookbook is a combination of recipes and excellent journalism. Carolin Eden gives us the gift of recipes and stunning photos to gain insight on Central Asia.

I am in love with the photography throughout this cookbook. The food looks delightful, and now we can apply a story to these recipes. There are pictures of families sharing the table, stunning landscapes, and beautiful architecture. Alongside the photos are stories about individuals and their life adventures. A lot of these stories are forgotten ones we don’t read about in history books.

Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes through Central Asia, from Hinterland to Heartland (via Amazon; affiliate link) is a follow up to Eden’s award winning book Black Sea. She is beautifully trying to illustrate the vast land that is Asia, exploring all the nooks and crannies for a complete picture of the culture.

What places would you like to take a food journey through? Are there places you’d like to eat like a local? I have quite a few in mind, but I would love to go to Thailand and Cambodia!
