I have a friend who is the sweetest human being alive, but she can’t cook or bake. She tries really, really hard, but always tells herself “I’m just not a cook.” That seems to be a phrase many of my fellow millennials say. They look at me and tell me, “Wow you’re such an amazing cook, I wish I could do that!” as if there’s this ‘chef’ gene inside of me. (Shh, I will still burn my toast in the morning…) That’s why I am thrilled about Claire Saffitz’s first cookbook Dessert Person: Recipes and Guidance for Baking with Confidence. (via Amazon; affiliate link) She understands that we just need to learn the ins and outs of baking to make beautiful desserts and main courses… we’re ALL dessert people after all.
For us visual learners, the recipe breakdowns are beautifully photographed. Being able to know how to fold the flour or incorporate fruits in your bakes can be difficult to gauge. Each step is presented in a way you can understand with photos and text. This is very important for more complex bakes like cinnamon rolls or breads.
No matter if you’re a novice or trained cook, Claire Saffitz’s cookbook “Dessert Person: Recipes and Guidance for Baking with Confidence.” (via Amazon; affiliate link) is going to be a necessity for each kitchen! I know I’m going to get one for myself and probably one for my friend, too. Then we can start baking together and both be masters. Maybe she’ll understand it just takes practice… and a cookbook obsession to kickstart your love of cooking!
