Preparing for the Season with “A Literary Holiday Cookbook”

I woke up to a whimsical foggy backyard this morning. Little glimmers of light were shining on the dewdrops on my grass. This fantasy-like landscape was a friendly reminder that fall really is here! Halloween is only a few weeks away (wow, time is going by fast!)

One of my favorite pastimes is reading fairytales while wrapped in a blanket in front of a fireplace, with the smell of freshly baked cookies wafting in the air.

Once I saw A Literary Holiday Cookbook (via Amazon; affiliate link), I knew I was in luck.

The cover of this cookbook is a little deceptive, as it leads us to believe this is for strictly Christmas or Yule themed bakes. Luckily half the book is Halloween and it even offers some New Year’s themed main courses and dessert recipes!

Even though there aren’t thousands of recipes for each story out there (because there would be!) the author, Alison Walsh, has given us many unique themed ideas with fantastic recipes. I’ve never done a Chronicles of Narnia party, but this is a great idea for kids this time of year. Stick the movie on, put it in their reading curriculum, then celebrate by having a party later this winter. How about cooking up deviled raven eggs and coffin pizza pockets for a Edgar Allen Poe: Once Upon Midnight gathering with your roommates or select friends?

Each themed recipe and idea is divided up by holiday themes. Some are loosely interpreted enough where they could cover whatever season or holiday suits you best. There are about 4 to 5 recipes per theme, giving us some fantastic examples to kickstart our parties or gatherings.

Encourage your little ones to be a part of a book club this time of year. Because of the difficult quarantine situation we’re all in, we need to find ways of staying entertained and social. Both parents and kids can be rewarded for finishing their books with a little themed dinner party using A Literary Holiday Cookbook.

What kind of theme would you like to see in a cookbook? Personally, I’d love to see an exclusively Isaac Asimov oriented cookbook or a Lord of the Rings cookbook. You can’t beat the classics!
